July 27th, Gary Gygax Day

City of Lake Geneva

The Gygax Memorial Fund has successfully petitioned the City Council and the Mayor of Lake Geneva to declare Gary Gygax’s birthday, July 27th, as “Gary Gygax Day” in the City of Lake Geneva.

Throughout its history, Lake Geneva has been home to many famous residents but these notable families and individuals made their fortunes and fame elsewhere and only lived in Lake Geneva for a few months out of the year. Gary Gygax grew up here and created his fame and fortune here and most importantly, shared it with his hometown.

As stated by Ed Schwinn, President of the Geneva Lake Museum, in a recent Chicago Tribune article, "No matter how many well-known families have been coming here a century or more, I’m not sure any of us have done as much for the city of Lake Geneva as Gary Gygax."
